I'm going to be scoring the film Gonda by awesome Austrian artist Ursula Mayer. The film is a dark and multi-layered piece dealing with the work of Ayn Rand, starring transgender fashion model Valentijn de Hingh.

I'm also amped to be singing some of the music of Jherek Bischoff (of Parenthetical Girls and the Dead Science) in February with the Wordless Music Orchestra at Carnegie Hall. Other guests include David Byrne and Craig Wedren. Sick.

I'll be doing quite a bit of performing in NYC in the next couple of months with both Extra Life and Seaven Teares. No tours in the near future. Both bands are close to finishing new full-length records. Release details still pending, but it won't be long...

As for this opera project I've been talking about, I'm going to start by writing and recording an orchestral song cycle for several different singers. That's crazy enough for now. The writing has been going verrrrry slowly but I'm truly psyched about what it's going to be.

Hope to see you around town,

Charlie

I'm excited about this fellowship I recently got from the Brooklyn Philharmonic Orchestra's Composer Mentorship Program. They're commissioning a string quartet by me and the full orchestra will read through and coach me on some sketches which will eventually become my opera. Pretty long-range plans. Look out for that next year.

More immediately, Extra Life is going on tour in July with Sam Mickens and Parenthetical Girls. We'll be selling copies of the Parenthetical Girls / Extra Life split. Tour dates are all listed on the Shows page.

perhaps I'll see you in your town,

Charlie

Lookerland is back in action, updated and fully relevant (at least to itself). Here is the full update of what I'm up to :

I've started my own little vinyl-only label, Last Things Records. The first release will be the new Extra Life EP Ripped Heart which comes out on April 5, on 12" vinyl and digital formats. It will also be released in Europe by LOAF Recordings, digital only.

Extra Life will be touring Europe in April. Dates are posted in the Shows section. We will also be doing a longer U.S. tour in July with Parenthetical Girls.

Seaven Teares is working on our first record and playing shows in NY. We'll be doing a short Northeast tour in August.

On May 7 I'll be in London with the Tyondai Braxton, playing Ty's music with the BBC Orchestra.

The first 12" single by Sculptress will come out on May on Last Things.

Period will be performing a bit more frequently this summer.

I have begun preliminary work on an opera. I'm looking for ways to make that project happen in 2012, right as we swallow our own collective tail.

Thanks for stopping by! Stay tuned for more...

xo,
